The Oak Green 1:48 set from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene contains fine laser-cut paper leaves with the characteristic lobed shape of an oak leaf, in a summer green shade. It is not a tree and not finished vegetation but a loose leaf material for foliating your own tree or bush armature. Thanks to its pronounced outline the oak leaf reads well on a model, so even from close up it clearly shows which species is involved. The recommended scale is 1:48.
The leaves are applied to a wire or natural tree armature and to a bush of seafoam, or sprinkled loose as undergrowth and foliage along a path or at the foot of a wall. The manufacturer also recommends them as an enlivening addition to combat vehicles and to models of buildings — leaves on a superstructure, in a camouflage net or in a roof gutter give a scene scale. The green shade matches the full growing season, that is spring and summer.
Work on a base and with tweezers, as the leaves are very light and fly away. Spraying the armature with thin glue or matte varnish, sprinkling the leaves into it and shaking the excess back into the bag proves itself. Permanent anchoring is provided by thinned PVA glue with a drop of dish soap, applied from above with a pipette. An oak has a dense, broken-up crown, so apply the leaves in several layers and let them dry in between. When you are finished, shade the area gently with an airbrush and fix loose pieces with a light overspray.
This is a modeling material, not a kit. The glue, the tree armature and the paints are not included in the package.
