The centenary of No. 6 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force on the EA-18G Growler machine A46-306 from 2017; decals in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
No. 6 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force reached a hundred years in 2017 and the celebration was given to one of its newest machines, the EA-18G Growler with the code A46-306. The joining of a hundred-year tradition and an aircraft intended for electronic warfare is remarkable in itself: the unit came about still in the time of fabric biplanes and today flies equipment that puts an opponent's radars out of action.
The EA-18G derives from the two-seat Super Hornet, but instead of gun armament it carries jamming transmitters under the wings and extensive receiving equipment on the wingtips. Australia is the only foreign operator of this type and its machines differ from the American ones only in small details of equipment and markings, which makes them an attractive alternative to the usual naval subjects.
The prefix A46 belongs to the Australian machines of the Super Hornet family; the number after the dash then denotes a particular example. The jubilee artwork of 2017 works with a dark base and light elements on the fins, so it stands out on a model even without further work.
The Growler has two vertical tail surfaces canted outward, which has to be borne in mind when settling the larger decals.
