Decals in 1:48 scale for the EA-6B Prowler carrier electronic warfare aircraft. The data gives two machines from two naval squadrons.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Prowler came about by stretching the fuselage of a carrier bomber, so that two more operators would fit into it, and an attack machine thereby became a flying means of electronic warfare. The task was not to drop bombs but to blind air defense: to jam its radars, to drown out communications and to open the way for strike formations. Its characteristic silhouette is lent by the pod on the vertical tail and the underwing pods with their own generators. It lasted four decades in service and for many years it was the only machine of its kind flying from the decks of aircraft carriers.
Two aircraft are described, each from a different electronic warfare squadron, given complete with the construction number and the deck marking on the fin. The first belonged to a unit whose nickname refers to a mythical bird, the second to a squadron named after wizards. Both finishes thus allow a pair of machines to be built which differ only in the marking and the numbers, which is rewarding for a comparative display case.
This is a separate sheet which complements a kit in the corresponding size. The package is made up of a printed sheet and nothing more; do not look for plastic parts in it. Before application it pays to compare the position of the lettering with the documentation of the specific machine, because squadron markings in carrier aviation changed along with transfers between formations.
