This is not a conventional plastic model but a kit of plastic bricks from the Polish maker COBI. The colored parts join by clipping together and the aircraft comes about by building according to numbered illustrated instructions. The package is aimed at the Italian form of the Typhoon, that is, at one of the four countries that took part in the program. The 1:48 scale given in the name corresponds to a model that fits comfortably into an ordinary display case.
The Eurofighter Typhoon came about as a joint project of Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain, and all four countries took it into the armament of their air arms. The aircraft combines a delta wing with canard foreplanes ahead of it, which gives it high maneuverability, and it is powered by a pair of jet engines. The design is deliberately aerodynamically unstable and is held in balance by an electronic flight control system. The Italian Air Force deploys the Typhoon above all to protect airspace, but the machine also handles attacks on ground targets. It is precisely this multirole quality that is the main reason why the type has held on in Europe as a backbone fighter.
The build goes step by step according to the instructions, from the fuselage through the wing and the canard foreplanes to the landing gear. It pays off to sort the parts out in advance and to work on a flat surface. The finished aircraft is strong and will take ordinary handling, so it can be moved around without worry. The joints stay demountable, so the model can be dismantled and built again at any time. Dust is removed from the surface with a soft brush.
