Quinta Studio 1:48 F-104S, a 3D printed color interior on decal paper (Hasegawa), is a set of colored 3D decals for the cockpit of the Starfighter. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory that replaces the flat plastic detail of the cockpit.

Quinta Studio prints its interior sets directly onto decal paper. The carrier is therefore the same as on an ordinary decal, but the layer on it has real relief: the dials stand out from the panel, the switches have a body and the lettering is printed in color. The result comes close to what only carefully painted photo-etched parts used to manage, but without bending, soldering and gluing tiny strips of metal. The set is cut for the Hasegawa kit in 1:48 scale. Quinta releases interiors of the same aircraft for kits from other manufacturers too, and their shape and dimensions differ, so they cannot stand in for one another; that is why the designation of the target kit is the key detail with this set.
The F-104S is the Italian licensed version of the Starfighter, built above all for the interceptor role. The cockpit is a single-seater and purely analog: round dials with needles, densely occupied side panels and rows of switches. An interior like that gets the most out of a 3D decal. There are many small, color-differentiated elements here and in 1:48 scale they are hard to do with a brush, whereas printing manages them in one step.
The most important thing is preparing the undercoat. The plastic part the decal will go onto is first sanded smooth, because the molded relief of the instruments would make bumps under the printed layer and the panel would not seat. Spray the sanded area with a dark shade, black or a very dark gray, so that the plastic does not show through the thin layer, and coat it with a gloss varnish. Only on a smooth glossy undercoat will the decal seat without silvering along the edges. Cut the panels out one at a time, seat them with tweezers and do not press on the relief. Leave out the decal softener completely, because it would damage the printed resin.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
