A New Ware masking set at the Advanced level for a model of the Convair F-106A fighter. Cut masks in thin masking paper cover the cockpit glazing and other surfaces that are not meant to take paint while the model is being sprayed. It is not a model and not a kit - the set comes into its own at the moment when the model is built and you are getting ready to spray.
The F-106A Delta Dart was an American all-weather interceptor with a tailless delta wing. It followed on from an older type of similar layout and brought a more powerful engine and a more elaborate fire control system. Its task was not the classic dogfight but the interception of intruders in the airspace: the ground network guided the aircraft to its target and the fire control system could handle a large part of the job semi-automatically. It carried its armament in an internal bay so as to keep clean aerodynamic shapes. With the air defense command it stayed in service unusually long, until the end of the 1980s, and a number of airframes then finished their careers as unmanned aerial targets.
The Delta Dart had an elongated canopy with prominent frames, and on a model the clear part catches the eye at once. A mask cut exactly to the shape of a frame saves long measuring and guarantees that the edge of the paint runs where it should. Apply them to a clean, degreased surface shortly before spraying, press the edges down with a blunt tool and lay the paint on in several thin coats. Lift them shortly after the paint has become tacky - the longer the coat hardens, the greater the risk that it will tear at the edge. Never glue the clear part with ordinary cement for plastic, which would fog it; use a glue intended for glazing.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
