The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is an American carrier-based fighter with a crew of two and a variable-geometry wing. With the US Navy it served above all to protect naval formations and later for reconnaissance as well. Its unmistakable shape comes from the wide flat fuselage between the engine nacelles and the pair of vertical tail surfaces. The A version was the first production variant and is among the most frequently built forms of this machine.
A set of masks in 1:48 scale. The individual items come already cut to finished shapes in self-adhesive masking material, so there is no tracing of frames and no cutting of curves out of tape. The extent of the sheet and the position of the items are shown by the enclosed diagram. The masks are shaped for a particular kit: there are several sets for this type differing in part number, so go by the part number when ordering.
Wash the glazing before masking and let it dry thoroughly, so that the mask holds and no fingerprints are left under it. Stick the masks on before spraying, not onto dried paint, and press the edges down with a toothpick or a wooden stick - it is exactly under an edge that has not been pressed down that paint runs. Spray several light coats rather than one heavy one. Take the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch: lift a corner with a sharp point and pull it away at an angle to the edge.
The set suits anyone who is building the Tomcat in 1:48 scale and wants crisp transitions on the frames without cutting by hand. The package contains masking sheets as listed by the manufacturer; paints, thinner and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
