A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the two-seat F-16D Block 30/40/50 in 1:48 scale. The masks are laid on a clear part, the paint is sprayed over them and once it is dry they are taken off - nothing of them is left on the model. The BASIC level is the basic one from the manufacturer's range, that is, the simplest entry into working with pre-cut masks on this type.
Masking by hand starts with transferring the shape of a frame onto the clear part, then cutting it from tape, and then finding that you have missed by a tenth of a millimeter. On the glazing of a fighter that can easily be an hour of work and nerves. A pre-cut set shortens the whole step to a few minutes: you peel a mask off, lay it down and press it on. The main gain, though, is not the time but the fact that the knife never reaches the clear part at all - a score in glazing is practically impossible to put right.
Kabuki is a thin paper tape with a fine adhesive. It adapts to curves, holds well enough to keep paint from running under it, and once taken off it usually leaves no adhesive residue. Even so, always press a mask down around its whole perimeter and spray several thin layers instead of one heavy one.
The set is cut for a particular kit of the type in question in 1:48 scale. The paints, the thinner and the model are not included in the package.
