A photo-etch detail set for the American two-seat F/A-18D Hornet carrier fighter in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is not an aircraft model but a set of fine metal parts that replace or complete the detail of a plastic kit. Etched parts in thin sheet are crisper than molded plastic and cover instrument panels, seat belts, levers and the small covers and details of the cockpit and the airframe. The material is usually brass, with steel for some parts.
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is an American multi-role carrier combat aircraft of the US Navy and the US Marine Corps, capable of air combat as well as attacks on ground targets. The two-seat F/A-18D version has a second crew member behind the pilot and also serves on missions that call for operating sensors and directing a strike. It is powered by two engines.
Separate the etched parts with a sharp blade and bend them over the edge of a ruler or in a bending tool. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and it is worth degreasing the surface before gluing. The set is meant for more advanced modelers used to small metal parts.
The set does not contain the aircraft model itself; it serves as an accessory to the matching kit. Supplied unassembled and unpainted.
