A set of masking templates for the model of the F/A-18E Super Hornet carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18E Super Hornet is an American carrier multi-role combat aircraft, an enlarged development of the earlier Hornet. Compared with its predecessor it has a larger airframe, bigger leading air intakes and greater range, so that one machine covers both fighter and attack tasks. A modeler recognizes it by its angular air intakes and its large, heavily framed cabin.
The cabin glazing is sprayed together with the whole model and the canopy frames have to stay in the airframe color. Cutting tape by hand is slow on a canopy as intricate as this, and one inaccurate edge shows on a finished model more than anything else. The templates in this set follow the shape of the frames and spare you the most unpleasant part of the work. The manufacturer's instructions state which parts of the model the set covers and which kit it is cut for.
The masks are stuck on before spraying, onto a clean, dry and degreased surface. Transfer the template with tweezers, seat it on the edge of the frame and press the edges down firmly, with a toothpick for instance, so that paint does not run under them. Then apply the paint in several fine coats and spray perpendicular to the surface, not at a shallow angle to the edge of the mask. Lift the mask off soon after the paint has dried, while the coat is still flexible, and pull it across itself sideways rather than straight up. Protect the glazing from fingerprints in advance.
A masking set is supplied. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
