Die-cut 1:48 vinyl masks for the canopy frames and the wheel hubs of the F-35B, cut for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B version of the F-35 family is technically the most complex of the three. Behind the cockpit it carries a lift fan driven by a shaft from the main engine, and the nozzle at the end of the fuselage swivels downward, so the machine can land vertically and take off from a short runway or from the deck of ships without a catapult. It is operated by the US Marine Corps and by several allied countries, and in model form it is among the most frequently built modern machines.
Glazing framing sprayed in paint always looks better than a thin film stuck onto the clear part: no step is created, the gloss is not distorted and the color of the frames matches the surrounding fuselage exactly. The set is cut from a thin, pliable vinyl that can be laid even over a doubly curved canopy without creasing. Besides the frames it also contains discs for the wheel hubs, which produce a sharp boundary between the tire and the hub.
The masks are cut to the parts of the Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale, which is a separate item. The machine itself is bought separately. Degrease the glazing before applying them and work with soft-tipped tweezers. First spray a thin coat of the cockpit shade, and only then the top fuselage color. Lift the mask while the varnish is not yet fully cured, because the edge then stays clean.
Look the removed canopy over against the light at the end. Small gaps along the edge can be touched in with a fine brush, but that only makes sense while you still have the originally mixed shade at hand. The doors above the lift fan deserve attention too: if you build them open, that changes the area which has to be protected from overspray.
