Die-cut templates from the Eduard brand for a model of the Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II in 1:48 scale. The set makes it easier to spray the frames of the glazing, which on this aircraft have an unusual shape with no fixed windscreen post, so they are hard to outline with tape cut by hand. The work is thereby markedly shortened and the result is the same every time.
The C is the naval variant with an enlarged wing area, folding wing tips and an arrestor hook. The larger wing improves behavior on approach to a deck and increases range, and the landing gear is strengthened for hard touchdowns. With the US Navy it is the first low-observable machine operated from a deck. It carries its weapons in an internal bay so as to stay as inconspicuous as possible.
Current machines wear flat low-reflectance finishes on which every overrun is noticeable. Press the template down along the whole edge, therefore, and lay the first coat on as a fine mist that seals the edge. Only then cover the area to full density, and to be safe tape the finished glass over before you complete the model. Finally polish the glazing with a fine paste, because flat surroundings will otherwise emphasize every scratch.
