Glazing masks for the cabin of the F-4 Phantom II in 1:48 scale for the inner and the outer side, for the B, C, D, J and N versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of glazing masks in the form for both sides of the clear parts. Against the basic one-sided version it contains masks for the inner side in addition, so the frame can be sprayed from the inside as well.
What you gain by it
The Phantom is often built with the canopies hinged up and both cabins can then be clearly seen into. A frame sprayed only from the outside stays transparent on the inside and, looked at into the cockpit, acts as glass without any structure. Masking both ways makes it possible to give the inner side of the frame the shade of the interior and the outer side the camouflage of the airframe, that is, exactly what the real machine has.
The procedure
Start with the inner side: stick the masks on, spray the interior shade and let it cure. Then turn the part over, stick the outer masks on and spray the outer color. Between the two stages it pays to leave the part alone for at least a day, because fresh paint takes an imprint under the pressure of tweezers. Always remove the masks by pulling across the edge of the frame, not straight away from the surface.
The F-4B, F-4J and F-4N versions served with the US Navy and the Marine Corps, the F-4C and F-4D with the US Air Force. All of them were two-seaters, with separate spaces for the pilot and the weapon systems operator under individual canopies.
