National insignia masks for the F-4C and F-4D Phantom II in 1:48 scale. The American star with bars is sprayed instead of a decal being stuck on.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks for the American national insignia for the F-4C and F-4D versions. It has nothing in common with masks for the cabin; they are worked with on finished camouflage.
A multicolored insignia in layers
The American star with bars at the sides is not single-colored, and therein lies the difference against a simple circle. It is sprayed in layers: first the light area of the star and the bars, and after drying the second mask and the colored field. Every layer has to follow on exactly from the previous one, so lay the masks down in good light and check the edge against a reflection before spraying.
Why a sprayed insignia stands up to more
A decal on the large area of a wing or on the side of a fuselage gives itself away against the light by the edge of its carrier film, and during weathering it can easily be lifted. A sprayed insignia is a part of the finish: it has no thickness, it carries across rivets and panel lines, and a wash passes over it without risk.
The F-4C and F-4D were versions of the Phantom II in the armament of the US Air Force. They carried the usual US Air Force national insignia of the day, whose form changed during their service according to the regulations in force.
