Stencils for spraying the stars and bars and the additional markings of the early air force Phantoms in 1:48 scale. The target model is given in the name of the item.
The early air force Phantoms carried the American star in a rectangular field on the fuselage and the wing, a two-letter wing code on the fin and a serial number. During service over Southeast Asia the full-color insignia on the upper surfaces grew smaller and lost contrast, because the camouflage finish was meant to hide the machine when seen from above. That is exactly why on one type you will meet very different sizes and placements of the insignia depending on the year and the unit. Besides the insignia themselves the machines also carried small technical lettering and markings at the filler points, which shape the overall impression just as strongly as a large star on the side.
When you build several machines of one unit, sprayed markings come out identical on all the models and it does not matter how old a decal sheet you have to hand. The design also follows the shape of the surface, so it crosses rivets and recessed panels without rippling. Lay a covering white coat under the star, otherwise the blue field will darken. Smooth the edges down with a wooden stick after laying them on and go over with the paint in several light passes.
