The Eduard 1:48 F-4G Phantom wheel bays set of pre-cut masks is intended for covering the landing gear bays while painting a model. It is not a kit but an accessory for modelers.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a set of pre-cut masking pieces for the landing gear bays of the F-4G Phantom in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model or a photo-etched set: the masks are applied to the surfaces that are to stay free of paint and are taken off again after spraying. That does away with the lengthy cutting of shapes out of masking tape with a knife, in which it is easy to cut into the plastic or to miss the outline of the bay. The manufacturer is Eduard, a Czech firm with long experience of modeling accessories.
The F-4G Phantom II was a specialized machine for suppressing enemy air defenses. It was created by rebuilding two-seat F-4Es and carried equipment for finding and locating radars, which it then attacked with anti-radiation missiles. It stayed in service into the 1990s and was deployed, among other places, in Operation Desert Storm. The power came from a pair of General Electric J79 jet engines, characteristic of the whole Phantom family.
Apply the masks to a clean and degreased surface and press the edges down properly with a toothpick or the blunt tip of tweezers, so that no paint runs underneath. Spray rather in several thin coats; a heavy coat readily peels at the edge when the mask is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried and pull at a slight angle, not straight up. The inside of the landing gear bays tends to be in a different shade from the underside of the airframe, so it pays to spray the bays first, let them dry well and only then close them off with a mask.
The set is an add-on for painting a model. It does not contain the kit itself, paints or glue.
