The Quinta Studio set is a printed color interior on decal paper for a model of the single-seat F-5E light fighter. It is transferred onto the plastic by soaking in water rather than gluing, and once dry it carries finished dials, placards and panel shades. For the modeler who does not want to paint small instruments with a brush or to assemble photo-etched layers, it is the quickest way to get a cockpit to display standard.
The F-5E is the single-seat version of a light supersonic twin-engine aircraft designed as a simple machine that is undemanding in service. That simplicity carries over into the cockpit as well: a clear layout of the instruments and a fairly compact space in which almost everything shows with the canopy open. The type appears in kits in many forms and the interiors differ between versions, which is why the set is tied to a particular model.
Spray the cockpit with a base color and coat it with gloss varnish; a matte surface is a mistake and the commonest cause of silvering. Soak the segment in lukewarm water only until it releases, move it into place with a brush and draw the excess water off. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, because their chemicals attack the printed resin and ruin the element. Never press it with force, or the printing can be damaged. Do the side panels and the instrument panel separately and let them dry between steps. At the end, a matte varnish and at least a day of rest before the canopy is closed.
