1:48 F-86 K Sabre Dog - Canopy and Wheels Paint Masks Set (for Special Hobby Kits)

The real subject

The F-86K was a version of the Sabre adapted for night and all-weather interception and served with the European states of the North Atlantic Alliance. What distinguishes it at first glance from the day Sabres is a heftier nose with a radar housing above the air intake, thanks to which the nickname Sabre Dog took hold for this branch of the family.

What the set contains

The set brings masking templates for the canopy and for the wheels, in 1:48 scale and in shapes prepared for Special Hobby kits. That does away with cutting to a pattern and with laying narrow strips of tape across the rounded frames of the canopy, work in which more time and nerves are lost than in the spraying itself.

Building and painting tips

Stick the masks onto a clean, degreased and dry surface before spraying. Press each piece down and smooth the edges with the blunt tip of a toothpick, so that paint does not run underneath. Apply the paint in several thin coats; a heavy application creates a step at the edge which is clearly visible once the mask is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not several days later, when the edge has baked on.

On the wheels the mask separates the wheel from the tire, so you can paint both in whatever order suits you and you do not have to work a brush along the circumference.

• templates for the canopy and for the wheels
• 1:48 scale, shapes for Special Hobby kits
• the masks are laid on and hold by themselves, no further glue is needed
• stick them on before spraying, onto a degreased surface
• take them off shortly after the paint has dried

Who it is for

The set suits anyone who wants a crisp transition of colors on the frames of a cockpit and a clean wheel with no paint running where it should not. Even a less experienced modeler will manage it, because the pieces only have to be laid on according to the shape of the area concerned.

The package contains the masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
