1:48 F-86D Sabre Dog UC bays Monogram - masking shapes for the landing gear openings of the Sabre interceptor version with a radar in the nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cut shapes match the wheel openings of the interceptor version of the Sabre. They serve to stop the inner tone from carrying over onto the surrounding surface and to keep the transition straight all the way around.
Although it shares its name with the day fighter, the D version is largely a new design. A radar went into the nose under a radome above the intake, the cockpit stayed single-seat and the gun armament disappeared completely. In its place a tray with dozens of small-caliber unguided rockets extended from the belly, which the pilot fired in a salvo after the onboard system had taken aim. The engine got an afterburner and with it the aircraft set a world speed record in 1953. Over two thousand examples were built, which made it the most numerous subtype of the whole family.
Because of the retractable tray the belly has more panel joints, so spray in sections and watch the places where surfaces meet. The inner shade comes first. Smooth the masking shape down around the perimeter and apply the paint in several fine mists. Inspect the corners with a magnifier, since three surfaces come together in them.
