A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the North American F-86F-40 Sabre jet fighter in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. It is not a model or decals but an accessory for a build. The double-sided version means that the set allows for masking the outer and the inner side of the clear parts. The framing can be sprayed in the interior color from inside and in the final finish from outside, so with the canopy raised no bare transparent plastic shows. On the Sabre that tells, because the bubble canopy is large and clean and any imprecision at the boundary of a frame shows at once. The masks are cut to the outline of a particular kit and will not fit a kit from another manufacturer. The masks are cut for the Airfix kit.
The North American F-86 Sabre was an American jet fighter with a swept wing, one of the first Western machines of this layout. It was powered by a single turbojet with a nose air intake, and the pilot sat under a bubble canopy with a very good view. The F-86F-40 version differs from the older machines in a modified wing, which was given extended tips and reinstated leading-edge slats, improving handling at low speeds. This version was delivered to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and was also built under license in Japan. It attracts modelers thanks to its varied color schemes.
Degrease the clear parts and let them dry. Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, seat them from one edge and push the air out. With the large bubble canopy, work slowly so that the mask does not wrinkle. Press the edges down with a wooden toothpick. Spray the framing in the interior color from inside first and, once dry, mask and spray from outside. The silvery and glossy finishes typical of this type are especially unforgiving of overruns, so lay the paint on in thin coats. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, at an acute angle.
It is a supplementary set of masks, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
