1:48 F-94C Starfire undercarriage wheel bay paint mask - shaped templates for a clean definition of the landing gear bays of an interceptor from the early 1950s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set of thin self-adhesive templates is cut to the shape of the openings into which the landing gear of this machine is stowed. It serves to make the boundary between the inside of the bay and the surrounding skin come out crisp and straight, with no paint running over the edge.
The Lockheed F-94C grew out of the T-33 trainer line and became the first production American fighter with an engine fitted with an afterburner. The C version got a new thinner wing, a strengthened fuselage and a radar in the nose. Its weapons consisted solely of small-caliber unguided rockets, some in a ring around the nose and others in pods on the leading edge. In the second half of the 1950s these aircraft guarded the American air frontiers with Air Defense Command.
On jets of that period the insides of the bays are usually set off from the lower surface of the fuselage, so it is worth spraying them separately and only then closing the open areas off. Work in thin coats; pressing around the perimeter with a finger improves the crispness of the edge. Lift the template while the paint is still fresh, pulling it at an angle.
