A set of national insignia masks for a model of the carrier-borne fighter aircraft Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat in 1:48 scale. The insignia are sprayed, not applied as a decal.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat was a carrier-borne fighter aircraft of the US Navy from the beginning of the Second World War. It was a stocky machine with a short fuselage and with landing gear retracting into the sides of the fuselage; the F4F-3 version still had fixed, non-folding wings. The national insignia on the fuselage and on the wings belong among the most closely watched details on this aircraft, because they lie on clearly visible surfaces.
It is a set of national insignia masks for a model in 1:48 scale. Instead of a decal the insignia is sprayed in paint, so no carrier film nor its glossy edge is left on the surface and the insignia does not silver under a flat clear coat. The extent of the masks and their layout is given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Stick the mask onto a dried, smooth and degreased finish, never onto fresh paint. Press the edges down carefully, so that paint does not run under them, and cover the area around the mask, because sprayed paint easily disperses beyond the target. Apply the paint in thin coats; a thick coat creates a ridge at the edge. Take the mask off once the paint has gone tacky, carefully and at an angle. With a multicolored insignia keep the order of the layers according to the instructions.
A model of the aircraft, paints and thinners are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The extent of the masks supplied is given in the manufacturer's description.
