A masking cut for the canopy and the windscreen of the carrier Phantom in 1:48 scale. The shapes cover the framing from both sides and match the clear parts of the Italeri kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4J form meant a great leap for the naval Phantoms. It received the AWG-10 radar with the ability to track a target below the horizon, stronger J79 engines and a slotted stabilator, which improved the behavior of the machines on the approach to a deck. It was with this version that pilots from Yankee Station flew over North Vietnam at the end of the 1960s, and the same aircraft were then used for four seasons by the Blue Angels aerobatic team.
The cockpit is a two-seater and consists of the windscreen and two separate sections of canopy. Each of them has framing of its own and all of them have to be covered at once, otherwise the shades between the individual sections will diverge slightly. The cut allows for that and carries shapes for the outer and the inner surface.
Fit the thin posts from the rear forward, so that the shapes always overlap away from the edge that matters visually. Before spraying, go around the whole perimeter with a wooden toothpick. One corner that does not seat is enough for paint to get under the film along a whole side.
The package holds only the cut. The model, thinner and decals are not in it, and no replacement for the clear part belongs with it either, so the original molding has to be kept free of scratches.
The backing sheet will take years of waiting if it lies flat and dry. Damp does the adhesive no good, and a bent backing prints through into the shapes so much that they stop seating around their whole perimeter. It also pays to leave the cut untouched until the cockpit is really ready for painting.
