A precise turned metal accessory that replaces the plastic barrels of the .50 caliber (12.7 mm) onboard machine guns on a model of the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat fighter in its late form with covered barrels. It is not an aircraft model but a detail replacement part made for 1:48 scale. The barrel is finely turned from brass and has a sharp muzzle and a clean bore that a plastic part cannot capture faithfully.
The visible mold seam and the rounded plastic muzzle both disappear. The metal barrels are precisely aligned, look realistic and are more resistant to damage during handling. Fine detail on the armament raises the impression of the finished model considerably.
Cut the plastic barrel off, drill a hole in the part that is left and glue the metal barrel in with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The work is easy and even a slightly advanced modeler will manage it.
This is an add-on detail set, not a complete kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
