Eduard 1:48 F6F-5/5N Masks

A set of self-adhesive cut masks from Eduard in 1:48 scale, intended for accurate spraying of the framing of the cockpit glazing and other clear areas of the American carrier-based F6F-5 fighter and the F6F-5N night fighter. It is not a kit or an airplane model but an accessory for a kit you already own. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts and the wheel hubs, the areas are sprayed with paint and, once the masks are lifted, sharply defined frames remain with no touching up by brush.

The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a rugged American carrier-based fighter that played a key role against Japanese aviation in the Pacific. The F6F-5 version was the main production form; the -5N variant additionally carried a radar in a pod under the wing and served as a night fighter. The set covers the glazing common to both versions.

Use

• The masks follow the shape of the glazing of a particular kit in 1:48 scale - check before buying that the set matches your kit.
• Apply them to a perfectly dry, smooth and degreased surface and press the mask down all round so that paint does not creep underneath.
• Spray with an airbrush in thin coats, preferably in several passes - a heavy coat creates a step at the edge of the mask.
• Spray the interior cockpit color first, then the final exterior shade; lift the mask with tweezers at an angle before the paint has fully cured.
• Besides the glazing frames the set usually also holds masks for the wheel discs and tires, for a clean separation of the colors.

Who it is for

For modelers who want their cockpit frames sprayed sharp and straight, with no jagged edges or brush overrun. It saves a lot of time and nerves, especially on complex glazing. Basic experience with an airbrush is useful.
