A set of accurately shaped self-adhesive painting masks of fine Japanese washi tape, known as kabuki masks, for a plastic model of the twin-engine Grumman F7F Tigercat fighter in 1:48 scale. This is neither a model nor an aircraft part but an aid for spraying the glazing and further areas cleanly. The EXPERT version is the most complete level of the set: besides the outer canopy masks it also holds masks for the frame sealant and the inner face of the glazing, and further the other clear parts and the wheel rims.

The real subject

The Grumman F7F Tigercat was an American twin-engine fighter with nosewheel landing gear, developed for carrier and land use at the close of the Second World War and used in combat only in the Korean War. The F7F-3N version was a two-seat night fighter conversion with radar in a lengthened nose.

How to use the masks

• Clean and degrease the clear parts, lift the mask off and seat it exactly on the frames.
• Press the edges down firmly so that paint cannot get underneath, then spray with an airbrush or a spray can.
• It is best to apply several thin coats and to take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried.
• The wheel rims can be separated cleanly from the tires.
