A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for the two-seat F/A-18D version with the squadron nicknamed Hawks. The manufacturer also makes a set for another squadron of the same version - the difference lies exactly in the unit given in the name, so choose by it according to which machine you want to build.
It is not a model or a set of parts. It holds printed markings, which you apply to a finished, painted and varnished model of the matching scale.
An airframe of this category is densely engraved and the markings often cross panel joints, doors and edges. Where a decal crosses a joint, air is held under the film and the motif breaks. The proven method is to let the decal dry, then cut the joint with the tip of a scalpel exactly along the line and apply a further dose of softener. The film draws into the groove and the line stays legible even after overcoating.
Start with a gloss varnish and give it time to cure. Soak the motif briefly in lukewarm water, let it stand on a towel and transfer it onto a thin layer of weak solution. Press the water out from the center outward, use a stronger softener only at the end and do not interfere with the drying film. Finally wash it and go over it with a matte or semi-matte varnish.
