The set contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazed surfaces of an A-10C model in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an add-on to one. The masks are made by the Czech firm Eduard of Obrnice near Most, die-cut from thin kabuki paper: it follows curves well, stays in place and leaves no adhesive on the clear part once removed. This set is the basic version, that is for the outer side of the glazing. Sets that also mask the inner side of the frames are listed by Eduard separately and you recognize them by the TFace designation in the name.
The Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American single-seat ground-attack aircraft with a straight wing and two turbofan engines mounted high on the sides of the rear fuselage. The design is built for survivability: an armored cockpit, duplicated control runs and the ability to keep flying after damage. The A-10C version is a modernized configuration with digital avionics, new displays in the cockpit and the ability to carry precision-guided stores. For the model what matters is that the large bubble canopy is glazed over most of its area, so the masking of the frames is visible.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm water with detergent and degrease it. Lift the mask off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, lay it on and press it down; work the edges with a toothpick so that nothing creeps underneath. First spray the interior color of the frames, then the base and finally the top shade. Spray in thin coats; one heavy coat will create a step at the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after drying, pulling at an angle along the edge. Glue clear parts with super glue for canopies or with dispersion glue for glazing; ordinary cement for plastic will fog a clear part. With the gray schemes of this category of equipment it pays to leave the frames a shade darker so that they do not get lost in the overall gray.
