A set of Eduard etched steel seat belts for the Fairey Fulmar Mk.I in 1:48 scale replaces belts that are missing or only suggested in both seats.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set concentrates on a single detail, but a very visible one: the crew harness. On the two-seat Fulmar it stands out all the more because the canopy glazing is long and opens up both the pilot's station and the navigator's compartment. The STEEL designation points to the etched steel material, which holds its shape once bent, so the belt can be left draped loose over the edge of the seat as well as realistically rippled.
Plastic kits deal with the harness either with relief molded on the seat, or not at all. Once the model is finished and the canopy is open, it is this detail that decides whether the interior looks empty or lived in. The gain is out of all proportion to the size of the set.
Snip the parts off as close to the fret as you can and level the edge with a file. Steel takes bending better than softer metals, so do not be afraid to give the belt a real shape, slowly and in two goes rather than with one sharp bend. Tack them down with a tiny dose of cyanoacrylate glue, ideally laid on with the tip of a wire or a toothpick. Fit the belts only once the seat is finished and painted, and bear in mind that after the fuselage is closed you will not get to them again.
