A farmer's cart in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Hauler. A diorama accessory for rural scenes, horse teams and subjects from the first half of the 20th century.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for building a scene: a model of a plain wooden farm cart of the kind that was common in the European countryside long after motorization arrived. It is not tied to any particular kit and builds on its own, but its purpose is a diorama one, that is, to round out the setting around the main subject. The cart suits a farmyard, a village street, a column of refugees and a supply post.
Horse teams remained an entirely ordinary part of the landscape during the Second World War, and a farm cart therefore fits both civilian and military scenes. It can be built loaded or empty, with the shaft folded down to the ground or with a horse from another set hitched up, or as a wreck left standing by a wall. It is precisely this freedom of use that is an advantage with an accessory of this kind, one that a vehicle from a military kit does not offer.
Wood is the main theme here. A base brown shade looks flat, so once it has dried apply thin oil glazes over it and bring out the edges of the planks with a dry brush; the grain of the wood also comes about from a light stroke of a harder pencil in the direction of the fibers. Paint the metal parts, that is, the wheel tires and the fittings, in dark steel with shades of rust. Finally dust the chassis and the bottom of the wheels with a pigment matched to the base of the scene, so that the cart does not float on the diorama. The recommended last step is a load: hay, sacks or boxes give the cart scale and a story.
This is a diorama accessory. The horse, figures, the load, glue and paints are not included in the package.
