A set of 3D decals from the SPACE line of the Czech manufacturer Eduard for detailing the cockpit of the FM-2 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. The decals have relief and are printed in color, so once applied to the plastic parts they create a three-dimensional and legible interior without painting tiny instruments by hand. It is not an airplane kit but an add-on to a model you obtain separately.
The FM-2 Wildcat was a lightened version of the Grumman Wildcat carrier fighter, produced in series by the Eastern Aircraft division of General Motors. It differed from the earlier machines in its Wright R-1820 radial engine and a taller fin, which balanced the greater torque. The combination of lower weight and a more powerful engine gave the aircraft a good climb and a short takeoff, so it suited small escort carriers, from which it served until the end of the Second World War. It is a single-seat machine, so the cockpit is simple and every detail in it is all the more visible.
Degrease the surface under the decals and rid it of dust; a smooth surface is ideal. With a sponge and a drop of detergent, moisten only the backing paper, lift the element off with tweezers and set it in place, adjusting the position with a soft brush. Fix it with white dispersion glue; do not use a decal softener or setter, they will attack the printed resin and spoil the element. Finish the interior and let it dry before you glue the fuselage halves together.
