An accessory for modelers, not a kit. It is a turned metal barrel for a large-caliber aircraft cannon in 1:48 scale. According to its name it is intended for the Me 262 A-1a/U4 and Me 410 A-1/U4, that is for the variants that carried this weapon. The plastic part from a kit is removed and replaced with the metal one.
This was a large-caliber aircraft cannon developed to destroy large aerial targets. A caliber of 5 cm meant a disproportionately long and heavy barrel, which on both of these aircraft projected markedly from the nose and changed the whole silhouette of the machine. In both cases the use stayed limited to small series and trial deployment. From a modeling point of view what matters above all is that the barrel is long, thin and utterly exposed.
A long projecting barrel is exactly the part where plastic fails: it warps in the mold, after release it has a parting line along its whole length and the muzzle is blind. A metal barrel is straight, has a real bore matching the caliber and, above all, carries its own weight without sagging. Because of the length and the weight of the part, epoxy is recommended for gluing, with the joint supported until it sets, so that the barrel does not slip out of line. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol, apply a primer for metal and finish the surface in a dark metallic shade or by oxidation. Carry a model with such a long projecting part by the fuselage, never by the nose.
This is an accessory to a kit, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
