A conversion set for an airfield fuel tanker on the GMC 353 chassis in 1:48 scale turns a cargo truck into an airfield refueling vehicle. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
A conversion set for modelers who want to build an airfield refueling vehicle from a kit of the American three-axle GMC 353 cargo truck. It is not a model of the truck but an accessory that changes the body; you need the base kit separately. The set belongs to a popular class of subjects for dioramas with airfield activity, because a tanker gives a scene with an aircraft both a story and a sense of scale.
The GMC series 353 truck was the standard three-axle vehicle of the US Army in the Second World War and served in many body variants. One of them was a tanker used on field and permanent airfields to refuel aircraft. A vehicle like that was ordinary airfield equipment, and in a diorama it makes a natural counterpart to a parked aircraft.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before building and let them dry, so that the primer holds. Cut the casting remains off with a saw and true the surfaces up with abrasive paper; protect your airways when sanding. Glue the conversion parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and seat the body dry first, so that it sits on the chassis frame. The painting is rewarding: a primer, an olive finish, lettering from decals and then wear to suit how long the truck was meant to have served. On a tanker it pays to bring out the hoses and the fittings the crew handled, because those are what show the scale on a model.
This is a conversion set, not a complete model of the vehicle. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
