About product

Omask 1:48 Gotha Go 242A masking set

Precisely cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of ICM's kit of the German transport glider Gotha Go 242A in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not parts of the model but an accessory intended for painting: the masks are stuck onto the clear parts and once the paint is sprayed the cockpit framing is left sharply defined.

Why masks pay off on this subject

The Go 242 has a glazed nose divided into a great number of small panes, and on top of that the side windows of the cargo compartment. Hand-cut tape here means hours of work and the result is usually ragged anyway. Ready-made masks shorten the whole stage to a few minutes and the edge of the paint is straight along the whole length of the frame. Watch the version: this set is cut for the Go 242A, the glider with a jettisonable undercarriage and landing skids. The later Go 242B version with a fixed wheeled undercarriage is covered by a separate item.

The real subject

The Gotha Go 242 was a German transport glider of the Second World War with a central fuselage nacelle, twin tail booms and the tail surfaces between them. It carried both cargo and troops, the compartment was loaded through hinged rear doors, and multi-engine aircraft towed it into the air. The A version was the first production form of the machine.

How to use the masks

Degrease the glazing first and after that touch it only with tweezers. Lift the masks off the sheet with the point of a scalpel, lay them on the relevant pane and press them down with a cotton bud or a soft stick so that the edge seats. With so many small parts, divide the work up and do not stick everything on at once. Apply the paint in thin coats, otherwise it will seep underneath. Remove the masks soon after the paint is dry to the touch, lifting a corner with a scalpel and pulling them off at an angle.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building the Gotha Go 242A in 1:48 scale
  • those who want to avoid hours of masking the divided glazed nose
  • builders who care about a straight, sharp edge on every frame
  • modelers who want to spray the cockpit with an airbrush without the risk of seepage

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The ICM kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not intended for it. The set is cut for the Go 242A version; the Go 242B is covered by a separate mask set.

No. It is an accessory, a sheet of self-adhesive masks for painting the glazing. The ICM Go 242A kit in 1:48 scale has to be bought separately.

It does not follow from the name, so do not count on it. Take the set as masks for painting the glazing of the model.

Press the edge of the mask down firmly with a soft stick and spray several thin coats instead of one heavy one. It also helps to spray the interior color first, as it seals any microscopic gaps.
