1:48 Grumman TBF-1C Avenger seatbelts STEEL is an Eduard photo-etched set of seat belts for the cockpit of a model of the carrier-based torpedo bomber in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item deals with a single, but very visible detail: the seat belts. Injection-molded plastic is always too thick for belts, and in an open cockpit that shows at first glance. Etched sheet, by contrast, has a realistic thickness and can be bent so that the belts hang freely over the edge of the seat. The designation STEEL in the name refers to the form of the range; the exact breakdown of the package is given on its packaging.
The Avenger was a three-seat carrier machine with a long glazed cockpit in which the pilot and the other crew members sat. That is exactly why on a model of this type it pays to give the seats and their belts more attention than on single-seat aircraft, where most of the interior is hidden under the frame of the canopy.
Cut the belts out of the fret with a scalpel and degrease the metal first, otherwise neither paint nor glue will hold on it. Bend the buckles and fittings in a bending tool, but give the strap itself only a gentle curve over a round object, so that it looks soft and not like wire. A minute drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a pin is enough to attach it; any excess would leave a white bloom on the seat. Before you fix the belts finally, try dry how they will run over the seat back.
This is an accessory for a plastic model. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
