A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for a plastic kit of the British fighter aircraft Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIB. The eleventh part of the Art Scale series is aimed at the machines of the South African Air Force (SAAF). The set contains markings only: neither the kit nor paints are part of it.
The Hurricane Mk.IIB was the machine-gun version of the second generation of the Hurricane: a Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine and twelve machine guns of .303 caliber in the wings, on some machines complemented by pylons under the wings. South African squadrons flew Hurricanes in the African theater, where the type proved itself thanks to its sturdy structure and its modest demands on operating strips. The desert camouflage and the different system of markings give these machines a look that differs markedly from the British aircraft from the home area.
The base must be smooth and glossy. Cut the motif out as closely as possible, dip it briefly in lukewarm water and leave it to rest until it starts to slide on the paper. Across engraved lines and onto curved surfaces use a decal softener, applied in small portions. Once it is seated, soak the excess water up with a soft cloth, and once dry varnish the model with a matte or semi-gloss clear coat. With desert schemes it pays to knock the markings back slightly with a thin layer of dust, as the decal then does not come across as stuck-on paper.
