A masking set for the national insignia of the H.S. Buccaneer aircraft in 1:48 scale. The roundels are sprayed shade by shade, so they arise straight in the paint.

A Dead Design set intended for spraying the national insignia of the British attack aircraft Buccaneer in 1:48 scale. These are not glazing masks but templates for the markings on the fuselage and the wing. The paint is applied through the template and the insignia becomes a part of the finish, not a layer laid on top of it.
British national insignia take the form of concentric circles, and that is exactly why they are sprayed differently from single-color markings. The work goes shade by shade, one after another, and between them the paint has to be left to dry thoroughly, otherwise it will be torn off with the next layer. The advantage against a decal is that the register holds exactly, because the individual circles are given by the shape of the template, not by printing on a film. The disadvantage is time; with a sprayed insignia you spend more work than with a decal.
Place the insignia on a finished and dried base finish. Before the paint itself it is advisable to fix the edge of the template with a light overspray of the base color, which creeps under the border and seals it. Then spray thinly and straight on, ideally at a lower pressure. Take the template off once it has dried and even any transition out with a flat or gloss clear coat according to the surface of the whole model.
