Die-cut masks for the four-cannon Hurricane Mk IIC in 1:48 scale. The glazing is masked from both sides, the insignia are sprayed and the small details are handled by decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The IIC version traded eight machine guns for four 20 mm Hispano cannons. It no longer took on fighters on speed, but it gained a hard punch against trains, columns and airfields, and at night it turned into a persistent intruder over occupied France. It also flew over Burma and the Mediterranean, where its roomy engine cowling forgave dust and heat. The strong tube-frame fuselage took a hit after which an all-metal structure would have stayed on the ground.
Every decal stands on a carrier film. Even the thinnest one creates an edge around the marking, which gives itself away in a side light as a glossy outline. A mask does not have that problem, because the paint ends exactly where the cut ends and the transition is visible only in the shade. On the large areas of the roundels the difference shows most.
First mask the inner side and spray the shade of the cockpit, and only then glue the canopy to the fuselage. The outer masks come in turn only after the base color. Watch the cannon barrels while handling the model; they stick out and bend easily. The basis of the cut is the kit from Italeri. Let the finished canopy rest overnight and only then take it in your fingers.
