Polikarpov I-16 3D interior 1:48 (Quinta Studio)

A colored interior set from Quinta Studio in 1:48 scale for models of the Polikarpov I-16 fighter. The elements are 3D printed on decal backing paper with real relief and are transferred by soaking in water. The set normally contains the instrument panel, the cockpit sidewalls, the seat with its belts and small controls with the colors printed on. The set is prepared for the I-16 kit from Zvezda.

The real subject

The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-seat fighter of the 1930s, one of the first production monoplanes with retractable landing gear. It served in the Spanish Civil War and in the opening stages of the Second World War. Its cramped cockpit takes on a strong character once it is detailed in color.

Use

• coat the surface with gloss varnish, cut the part out and soak it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds
• slide the part off the paper into place; it has no adhesive layer of its own and holds on the gloss varnish, and on a broken-up shape cyanoacrylate glue helps
• do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as they attack the printed resin
