A set of pitot tubes for Japanese naval aircraft in 1:48 scale from the Japanese maker FineMolds. Three turned brass parts; it is not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A detailing addition, not a kit. The box holds three turned brass pitot tubes in three different thicknesses, so you can cover several types of Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft. A pitot tube is a sensor of ram air pressure from which the airspeed reading is derived, and on a model it is a thin, protruding and extremely fragile element. That is exactly why it pays to replace it with metal. FineMolds is a Japanese maker whose turned accessories are among the most accurate in the field.
A plastic pitot tube from the base kit tends, because of the molding process, to be needlessly thick and to bend or snap during handling, usually at the worst possible moment. A turned brass part is thin in a ratio matching the real thing, hard and straight, so the result looks natural and the model survives being carried about. Three different thicknesses in one set mean that it suits several different types of Japanese naval machine and that one part stays in reserve.
Fit the part only at the very end of the build, after the painting and after the decals have gone on, otherwise it will be in the way and is easily bent. Drill a hole of the matching diameter in the wing or the fuselage, working up from a smaller drill so that the plastic does not split. Glue with cyanoacrylate and with a minimum amount only, as any excess would leave an unsightly mark on the surface. Degrease the brass before painting and lay on a primer for metal. The tube tends to be picked out from the surrounding area, usually in a dark or metallic tone; go by references for the particular type. When masking, take care that tape does not bend the part.
This is a detailing set, not a model in its own right. Paints, glues and the base kit are not included in the package.
