1:48 Il-2 mod. 1943 landing flaps is an Eduard photo-etched set that replaces the landing flaps on a model of the Il-2 attack aircraft in 1:48 scale and allows them to be shown lowered.

A narrowly aimed photo-etched set for a plastic model of the Il-2 mod. 1943 attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. It deals neither with the cockpit nor with the surface of the fuselage but with a single assembly: the landing flaps on the wing. It is not a kit but replacement parts in thin metal, which are fitted in place of the plastic parts from the kit. The maker is Eduard, a Czech specialist in photo-etched accessories.
The flaps are on the trailing edge of the wing and in kits they tend to be molded as part of the wing, that is closed and with a thick edge. A photo-etched replacement allows them to be shown lowered, which is the position the machine typically stands in on the ground after landing. At the same time the trailing edge reaches the right thickness and the internal structure of the flap, which is in view when it is lowered, is revealed. It is an intervention in the model: the original plastic flaps have to be cut away, so the set belongs rather to more experienced builders. Eduard also makes further sets for the Il-2 at this scale with a different reach, from the cockpit to a complete photo-etch.
Think the cutout through first: cut the flaps away with a razor saw or a scriber along the engraved lines, level the cut with a file and check that the wing has stayed straight. Bend the photo-etched parts in a bending tool along their whole length at once, otherwise a wave forms. Degrease the metal before gluing and spray a primer, and only then paint. Glue in spots with thin cyanoacrylate and fit the flaps as late as possible, ideally once the wing is painted, so that you do not bend them while handling it. Bring out the inside of the flap bay with a dark wash, so that the structure stands out.
The set is an accessory to a plastic model. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
