The set of masks 1:48 J2M3/5 Nat. Ins. w/o White Outline from Dead Design is for spraying national insignia without a light border for a model of the Mitsubishi Raiden interceptor.
Responsibility details are not available.
Masks for painting the Japanese national insignia on a model of the naval interceptor Mitsubishi J2M. The name delimits the subversions J2M3 and J2M5 and at the same time says that this is the disc without a light border. Without a Raiden model the set has no use, as it forms an accessory to it at the painting stage, when the airframe already has its camouflage finished and is waiting for markings.
The Raiden was designed as a defensive fighter whose main weapon was to be its rate of climb and its fire into bomber formations. The engine was therefore set deeper into the fuselage and drove the propeller through an extension shaft, while cooling was provided by a fan behind the massive cowling spinner. The unmistakable cigar-shaped outline of the airframe comes from that. The subversions differed mainly in armament and in the altitude characteristics of the powerplant.
The fuselage of the Raiden tapers from the cowling to the tail more markedly than on most fighters of the day, so a mask on the side sits on a double curvature. Do not hurry and seat it from the center outwards. Apply the red at right angles from above, so that the stream of paint does not travel along the sloping surface and under the edge. After lifting it, check the edge against the light, as a small patch of missed paint can be corrected with a brush before the clear coat goes on.
