This is a stand-alone object of a scene for a diorama in 1:48 scale, not a model and not a kit. A can is one of the most universal props of all: stood by a wall, stacked in a box, laid on a bed or in the hand of a figure, it always makes sense and gives a scene a working character. It is also a rewarding practice object — on a small area you can practice the whole sequence from a base through a wash to wear.
The twenty-liter portable can with three handles and a cam lever closure is among the most widespread transport containers for fuel. Its shape has barely changed since the middle of the 20th century, so it suits period as well as present-day scenes, civilian and military alike.
The scale is the distinguishing detail. The accessory is made for 1:48; the manufacturer also makes the same subject in further scales, so for 1:35 or 1:72 choose the matching variant.
Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting residue off and sand the surface. Lay the base down thinly, so that the pressed swages on the sides do not clog. After the base color comes a thin wash into the swages and around the handles, a dry brush on the edges and small wear in the places where the can would rub against a bed or a wall. Do the abrasions rather less than more — one well-placed scratch looks better than a continuous layer. The closure and the handles can be given a slightly different shade, so that they do not merge with the body.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
