This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale captures the American twin-engine JD-1D Invader utility aircraft in US Navy service. The JD-1 was the naval version of the well-known Invader attack aircraft, which the fleet used for auxiliary tasks. The nickname Jig Dog comes from the phonetic alphabet of the time for the letters J and D. The model represents the JD-1D sub-version modified as a control aircraft for unmanned aerial targets, typically associated with the KDA-1 target carried under the wing.
The Invader was an American twin-engine attack and bomber aircraft from the end of the Second World War. After the war the US Navy took over several machines under the JD-1 designation and used them for utility tasks — towing aerial targets, photography and measurement. The JD-1D version was modified as a control aircraft for unmanned targets, or drones, which served as practice targets for pilots and for air defense. The aircraft were often strikingly colorful, in a combination of yellow and blue, for easy identification, and the targets were brilliant red. In 1962 the designation of the machine was changed to DB-26J.
This is an injection-molded plastic kit, so use thin modeling cement for plastic on the joints. Finish and paint the cockpit, the engine nacelles and the landing gear with the later closing of the fuselage in mind. Apply a primer before the airbrush work. The striking high-visibility finish comes out on a smooth gloss surface; for saturated color areas and decals a gloss coat before the decals and a matte top coat at the end work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
