Stencils for the extensive glazing of the Junkers Ju 188 bomber in the E-1 version, 1:48 scale. Prepared for the Dragon kit; the sheet carries shapes for both sides of the clear parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Junkers Ju 188 came about by reworking the older Ju 88 and is told from its predecessor above all by the pointed wingtips and a substantially larger fin. The E-1 version was powered by BMW 801 radial engines, that is the same type the Focke-Wulf fighters carried. The machine was faster, handled better at great altitudes and carried stronger defensive armament. The Luftwaffe gave it the name Rächer, that is avenger, and deployed it both for bombing and for reconnaissance, and in the later versions against ships too.
The most conspicuous feature of the type is the enlarged glazed nose, in which the whole crew sits together. The glass here does not form just windows but the whole forward part of the fuselage, supplemented by the upper gun position and the ventral gondola. The number of frames runs into dozens and their width changes with the curvature of the surface. By hand it can be managed, but it takes a substantial part of the time devoted to the whole model.
Rid the clear parts of grease and let them dry. Stick the shapes on in groups and between them always check whether a bubble has stayed anywhere. The inner pieces belong on the surfaces that will be visible once assembled. Direct the spray square and in thin coats. Remove the film as soon as the paint becomes tacky, so that the edge does not start to tear.
