Masks for the gun-armed Junkers Ju 88P version in 1:48 scale. Glazing from both sides and two national insignia outlines.
Responsibility details are not available.
The letter P marked an attempt to carry field artillery into the air. A massive gondola was slung under the fuselage and, depending on the sub-version, it took either an anti-tank gun of 75 mm caliber, or a pair of 37 mm guns, or a 50 mm weapon derived from tank armament. The targets were columns and armored vehicles on the Eastern Front and later also formations of heavy bombers. The price paid for the firepower was cruel, though: the machine lost speed and agility and without an escort became easy prey, so most sorties took place at dusk or at night. The gunner also had to aim with the whole aircraft, and after every round the recoil shook the airframe, so a second chance at a hit came only after a long run-in.
The glazed section is covered from the outside and from the inside and two national insignia outlines are added. The cut matches the moldings of Dragon.
On a two-color upper surface it pays to work from the lighter tone to the darker one. The light shade is applied over the whole area, left to set, and only then are the fields that are to stay light covered; the darker tone goes on last, because it covers better and swallows any overlap. The reverse order forces the modeler to build a light color over a dark one, which means more coats and a thicker film exactly where the edge should be thinnest. Leave the film on the glazing in place throughout this sequence; every removal and fresh placing risks a shift of a tenth of a millimeter.
