A set of masks for painting the Japanese national insignia on a model of the Nakajima Ki-44 Shoki interceptor. According to the name this is the rendition with the disc outlined in white. On the dark green camouflage the Shoki wore in the second half of the war, it was exactly that border that made the insignia readable from a distance. It is bought to go with a model you already have under construction, not instead of it.
The Ki-44 was created in answer to a requirement from the Japanese Army Air Force, which wanted a machine with a steep climb and high speed instead of an agile dogfighter. The designers therefore gave it short wings and a powerful radial engine, which took the Shoki among the fastest-climbing Japanese fighters. Pilots used to softly responding types had to get used to a higher landing speed. At the end of the war machines of this type defended the Japanese islands against air raids.
The disc on the short wing of the Shoki lies close to the leading edge, so the mask sits on a curved surface. Press it down in the center first and work toward the edges slowly, so that no pocket of air is left under it. Spray the light base just enough so that the ring does not coarsen, and let the red mature before you start on the weathering.
