About product

A soldier kneeling on his right knee in 1:48 scale (CMK)

This is a stand-alone figure cast in resin, not a kit of a vehicle or an aircraft. The figure is caught kneeling on its right knee, with the torso leaning slightly forward and the center of gravity transferred onto the supporting leg. It is precisely this pose that decides where the figure suits on a finished scene: it looks best at the edge of a vehicle, behind low cover or on the ground beside a part-built model, where a kneeling figure fills an otherwise empty place. In 1:48 scale the figure measures only a few centimeters, so it works mainly as a scale comparison and as a way of bringing a composition to life.

The casting and cleaning it up

Resin figures are supplied on casting blocks. Before building, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that residues of the mold release agent are removed, otherwise primer will not hold on them. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a knife, never snap it off, and sand the surface down. Check the parting line from the mold, which on figures most often runs along the sides of the torso and along the outer side of the limbs. Sanding has to be done with respiratory protection, as resin dust is not to be inhaled. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin.

Painting

First spray on a thin primer, which evens out the surface and reveals any marks from sanding. Build the uniform up from a darker base toward lighter edges, so that a small figure does not go flat. In this scale the face and hands are most easily done with a base flesh tone, a dark wash into the eye sockets and under the nose and a dry brush on the raised areas. Set the gear and webbing apart with a richer color against the uniform, otherwise they are lost in a small format. Finally fix the whole with matte clear coat.

Who the figure is for

  • Builders of small dioramas and display case scenes
  • Anyone interested in resin castings with experience of cleaning them up
  • Adding to other figures of the same series, whose poses can be combined

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is supplied as a resin casting without paint, which has to be cleaned up, glued together and painted.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Ordinary cement for plastic does not bite into resin and the joint will not hold.

The exact contents of the package are stated on the box. The name describes one particular pose.

Yes. There tends to be a residue of mold release agent on the surface and primer would not hold on it. Lukewarm water with detergent is enough.
