A self-adhesive cut for the glazing of the Soviet LaGG-3 fighter in 1:48 scale. It covers the frames from outside and inside and is cut to the clear parts of the South Front kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The LaGG-3 was born at a time when the Soviet aircraft industry was short of aluminum, and the designers therefore reached for birch veneer impregnated with resin. The result was a machine heavier than it should have been, but resistant to splinters and able to take hard use from field strips. The Klimov engine carried a cannon on the propeller axis, which made it an unpleasant opponent for bombers, and the later batches received a lightened structure and a better view to the rear.
The cockpit has a fixed windscreen, a sliding middle section and a fixed rear fairing. Each part carries a different number of frames, and the rear part in particular causes trouble when masking by hand, because its frames converge to a point. The cut carries shapes for both sides of the glazing, and the inner set is somewhat smaller.
The inner shapes belong on the model before the canopy is set into the fuselage. Fit the outer set only after the surroundings have been filled and sanded, otherwise dust will get under the edge. Apply the spray in two thin coats and put the second on only once the first has lost its sheen.
The set deals with the covering exclusively. Plastic and resin parts, paint and decals have to be obtained separately.
Early machines flew in dark green with light blue undersides, later ones received a divided gray. The decision comes before the film is reached for, because with a light finish it is best to put a white primer under the frames, whereas a dark camouflage takes spraying straight onto the plastic.
