This interior set from Quinta Studio is printed on decal paper and is transferred onto a plastic model by soaking in water. On a large four-engine aircraft it is one of the most effective accessories of all: the inside of the fuselage is intricate, there are more crew stations and by hand the shading of the panels and instruments would drag on for long hours. The color layer with its relief is finished at once and holds a consistent look along the whole length of the interior.
The Lancaster B Mk.I is a British four-engine heavy bomber with a long, walk-through fuselage and an extensive inner space. That is exactly why models in 1:48 scale are often built with the entrances open or presented with parts uncovered, where the inside is visible. The interior contains more separate crew stations than that of a single-seat machine, so the extent of an interior set differs markedly from the cockpit sheets for fighters. Which particular parts the sheet covers is stated by the manufacturer on the box.
Plan the work in advance and proceed by sections, ideally starting from the least accessible places. Paint the areas and go over them with a gloss coat. Soak each segment briefly in lukewarm water, move it with a brush and draw the excess water off so that no bubbles stay under the layer. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, because their chemicals attack the printed resin and the print will be damaged. You will get it into the ribbing and the frames by repeated pressure with a damp brush rather than by force. With an interior this large, count on work over several evenings and on a longer drying time before the fuselage is closed, then even the whole thing out with a matte coat.
